July 4th

This year we decided not to go to the parade. The past two years we had and everyone was pretty much finished after that from being out in the heat for several hours. There are lots of things to do on the 4th and this year we decided that we wanted to make sure we saw the cardboard boat races. We also did a quick trip to the beach to look at the sand castles, but they really weren't that impressive this year.
Here are some of the boats
As you can see lots of different styles some pretty fancy
And some pretty simple :-)
Lots of people came out to watch the races
On the bank ready to go
And they're off!
Some of the boats stayed up really well
Well others sunk pretty quickly
The kids enjoyed watching!
There were lots of people in the water at times.....
The red boat here was pretty impressive as it held up and held a bunch of people!
Nathan is hoping to enter at some point, so he really wanted to see how the race goes. It was pretty interesting. Before the boat races we walking a little bit around town and had some ice cream from McDonalds. A friend from church had given us several gift cards to McDonalds and we have found using them for an ice cream treat to be a great option :-) After the boat races we came home and then I took the kids to the beach to play with friends for a little bit. We attempted to go see the fireworks, but that resulted in disaster as it was raining and the kids started fighting right when we got there so we headed back home and just put the kids to bed....there is always next year!
