Hot Chocolate and Dry Mustard

Here are two completely unrelated conversations we've had with the girls lately regarding food that I thought were amusing :-) 
Today Evie come in from outside, sits next to me on the couch and we have the following conversation:
Evie "Can we have hot chocolate please?"
Me: "No"
Evie: "But I'm so cold!!!"
Me: "You could get a sweatshirt on."
Evie: "I had one on, but I took it off because I was too hot"

Nathan made mac and cheese the other day and all the kids loved it. We were talking about the ingredients in it and Nathan mentioned there was dried mustard in it. Hannah responds with disgust "Dry mustard! I'm never eating that again!" We look at her funny, and then suddenly Nathan figures out why she was so disgusted learning there was dry mustard in the dish. He asks her what she thinks he meant by dried mustard and she responds with the stuff around the top of the mustard container. I don't think I'd want to have that in my dish either!

10 Commandments

We've been listening to a new Slugs & Bugs Sing the Bible CD that they released to supporters on Saturday. One of the songs is the 10 commandments. The song involves monsters and is quiet fun, the kids really like it. They were talking about it at the table last night and one of them asked "what's adultery?" Hannah responded "I think it's when a kid acts like an adult" Not a bad answer based on the sound of the word. Slightly amusing for something you're not allowed to do :-)  Evie's answer was "It's when someone pretends they're married to someone they're not." That definition works for me right now when explaining it to a 4, 7 and 8 year old :-)

The Cold Has Come

It has been a wonderfully mild Fall this year. We've enjoyed lots of playing outside and have used our heat very little. In fact, yesterday was the first day I ran the stove all day. Today we had ice in the bucket on our deck most (if not all) of the day, there was beautiful sun shine and the boys think it's okay to go outside in short sleeves still. My crazy kids! I enjoyed the mild Fall, but I like the cold too! :-)

Bowling!

Last week my parents came to town for a couple days. The kids had been asking to go bowling, so I thought this might be a good activity to do with them. Friday we headed out to the bowling ally for some fun! Bowling is so much higher tech than the last time I went. Did you know you can have bumpers for whatever players you want? All the kids were able to bumper bowl, while us adults pretended to really bowl (I totally stink at bowling and should have bumper bowled!). They also offered a ramp for the kids to put the ball on and push it down, Evie used it a couple of times and that was it. Here are some pictures, I forgot my camera, so these are not very good quality cell phone pictures, sorry about that.

Bowling was great until one of my children (whose namek.a.l.e.b. was apparently already forgotten by the victim and thus shall remain anonymous) dropped a bowling ball on my Dad's foot. Fortunately that didn't happen until about five minutes before we were heading home, so the whole afternoon wasn't a total loss. My Dad's big toe was in pretty rough shape though.

Growing up....

The boys are very proud of the fact that they are "big boys" and want to do everything and anything their sisters do, or more! Damen had been bugging me to let him make his own sandwich for lunch, so Sunday I walked him through how to do it, and then of course Kaleb wanted to learn as well. On Monday while I was doing school with the girls Damen asked if he could make himself a sandwich. I said sure. And he did. Kaleb did as well. They didn't do half bad it it either! They had also gotten their own breakfast (they heated up scones) that day. Not bad for a four year old!

Swimming!

What do you do when it's above 70 degrees in November? Why go swimming at the lake of course! Last Tuesday after voting we decided to head to the beach. We had gone to the park before voting, but it was crazy busy because it was a nice day and there was no school because of voting. We decided the beach would be a better bet. And it was! :-) I did not personally put more than my feet in the water, but the kids had fun and the girls actually did some swimming.

They were pretty cold after that! We went home and I made them get dressed to try and warm up, otherwise they would have stayed in their suits all day :-) It was fun, and how often can you say you went swimming at the beach in November in Connecticut?!
