Life in 1900

Saturday Nov. 12th we went to a harvest festival at a local nature center and it was based on life in 1900. The girls had a great time, we spent about five hours walking around and seeing the sights. Evie was completely exhausted by the end and even fell asleep in the car, which she never does.

They washed.......

Rinsed.........

and hung clothes to dry.

They helped churn butter

and got to eat some. Yum!

They made candles, which we lit during our Thanksgiving dinner.

Made yarn dolls

They painted okra to make Santa Clause ordainment

Hannah loved walking on the stilts

Evie gave it a try too

And I of course had to show off my stilt walking abilities :-)

They enjoyed playing bean bag toss

Evie liked helping stuff a scare crow

Hannah tried it, but lost interest quickly

They got to learn how to make rope

It was a complicated process that took three kids and a supervisor or two.

Each kid got to try each job for making it and then got to keep a piece of rope

The girls got to try sugar cane

This was Evie's opinion of it: here mom, I don't like it

They enjoyed holding the rabbit and chickens

They also enjoyed watching the cloggers

And were dancing right along with them

After the performance they invited all the kids to come up and dance with them

The girls loved the wagon ride.

We did it twice because they liked it so much....not that you can tell from this picture :-)

I think Hannah's favorite part might have been the shuttle bus ride to and from the Nature Center.

Evie enjoyed the bus ride too, but wasn't feeling so well on the way back....she threw up right after we got off the bus :-(

And since Daddy had to miss it because he was at home doing school work, we got him a present :-)

Yes, you read that right, 1 gallon, also known as 12 lbs of honey. He was quite happy.
